The Benefits of Massages For Athletes

Marathon runners at the starting line.Athletes are the ones who are completely dedicated to keeping their bodies at peak performance .  They need to be bigger, stronger, faster, more agile and etc . than the next person if they’re going to compete at the level they’d like to. Although breaking your body down and building it back up is a rather key component to the athletic world, not many people take into account how important massages are. Whenever you see a

football player getting stretched before the game or even worked on after the game has finished, the massage therapist (or sports trainer) working on them knows exactly what they’re doing.

They don’t get massages just for the fun of getting a massage.   Athletes take massage very serious as some even keep a professional massage therapist on their payroll.  Some people tend to think that massages have no positive effect on athletes, but those people couldn’t be further from the truth. These days anybody who is a sports fanatic will know that athletes need massages to keep themselves in peak physical condition, and we’re about to go through why they need these massages. In retrospect, you can’t blame them for enjoying a massage every now and then, even if it didn’t have positive effects for their field of work (although in this case it really does have a benefit).

What Are The Benefits?

Whenever an athlete feels like something is pulled or out of place (muscle wise that is), they automatically bring it up to their team massage therapist. There are a plethora of different massaging techniques to use on a person, but the therapist knows exactly which one to apply to certain injuries. On top of the loosening of tight muscles, massages actually help the cardiovascular activity of athletes as well.  The sport massage gets your blood flowing and gets you ready for whatever is headed your way next, which is exactly why athletes have the tendency to receive a sport massage massage before their events. The enhanced circulation of blood that you will be blessed with is really a god send.  It not only helps the blood move around your body quicker but it also promotes the relief of any muscle tension you may have.

Since shortening the recovery process of an injury is also important to athletes, massages play an important role in that respect as well. On top of the physical traits that a sport massage can bring to the table, there are also an abundance of psychological effects.

Trained masseuse sessions alleviate muscle tension and assist a person to feel calm, relaxed and less stressed out. This is a great way to maintain healthy body and mind.

Swedish

Swedish massage is quite frequent where light strokes are applied on the muscles of the human body. Too much pressure on tissue is avoided and while it’s occurring, the recipient feels absolute comfort and relaxation. Scar tissues are broken down easily and generally help in relieving aches, pain and tension.

Neuromuscular Therapy

This massage focuses on relieving pain that mainly results from muscles sprains and nervous system. Posture difficulties, nerve compression and circulation concerns are treated with ease as focus lies mainly on trigger points.

Deep Tissue

Particular body parts affected with pain can get huge relief from this procedure. Sometimes, the recipient might experience pain while undergoing deep tissue procedure because pressure is specifically applied on affected areas including muscles as well as tendons. But after this massage form is finished, the recipient will probably get relief from pain and feel better.

Sports

This form is perfect for diminishing pain which results from injuries caused by recurring motion most commonly found in sports practice. The kind of involvement in the activity mainly determines the treatment as well as strokes that can be applied. Apart from that, massage of such type increases flexibility as well as help in prevention of injuries over long periods of time. It also helps in speeding up curing of sprains as well as muscle strains.

Chair

Level 2 Thai Massage

Today is my 2nd day of training at the Orlando School of Thai Yoga Massage. A couple of weekends ago, in Level 1, I learned the basic format of the Northern style. This weekend, for Level 2, I am studying mostly Southern style, which is what was traditionally performed on the kings, queens and royal family members in Thailand. My instructor, Rob Murray, is demonstrating a few variations of the traditional poses in these pics.

My first out of town massage trip…

was 2 weeks ago to downtown Indianapolis, Indiana to work on a client of mine who is currently playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball team. It would have been great to walk around the downtown and explore all the shops, museums, race track and other attractions, but I was short on time. Between deep tissue, mat Thai Yoga and Swedish massage bodywork, I helped put him back on track. Hopefully he will continue to score many home runs for his team the remainder of this season.

Massage is key for professional and amateur athletes

Professional Massage

Many guys will think of massage and think of the spa days their wives and girlfriends love or which they give as Mother’s Day presents. Most males don’t realize that massage is about a lot more than relaxation and male massage is a great way to deal with a variety of problems including sports injuries.

Sports massage is a different area of massage that most professional massage therapists will have studied if they have taken a well-regarded course. Whether you are a pro footballer or just like to keep fit,  it could be that male massage for injuries and other muscle problems can help.

If you do just enjoy sports in order to keep, an injury can really set you back.  You are probably used to eating about the right amount of calories for the exercise regime you have: an injury could mean that you suddenly start pilling on the pounds as well as losing core fitness. What male massage can do for guys suffering from injuries is firstly to take away swelling and pain and then work to aid a quick recovery.

Unfortunately with damage to a muscle, if you have done it once then the muscle even once healed may be weaker and may be more prone to future injury. Male massage can help guys who are injury prone or have one muscle set that they have particular trouble with avoid future injury.  For a muscle to heal, it requires  good blood flow and therefore massage helps to rebuild the muscle to its former strength quickly. So you should continue massage to aid blood flow.

Professional sports men and women certainly use sports massage; Miami University’s Hurricanes American Football team had been suffering a serious knock back with the loss of Malcolm Bunche to a back injury. Bunche had been having severe spasms in his lower back making not only matches, but also training and fitness difficult for the player who was tipped to go on to great things. Bunche’s problems seem to have been solved by massage and by a regime of pre and post game stretches as prescribed by the team’s massage therapist.

Using massage is the idea of University of Miami Hurricanes coach, Al Golden, and now the whole team uses massage and stretches. Since introducing massage for players, injury rates have gone down massively. Massaging muscles means they lose tightness and allow lactic acid to be released that can otherwise lead to painful cramps. Tight muscles are also more prone to rip or tear, especially in a hard tackle and so a massage before the game can make injury during the game less likely and even help players keep going for longer, without muscles getting tired.
